Dax, it’s been so nice to finally meet you.

First though, to all the single parents, spouses of deployed military members, grandparent-caregivers, you people are amazing. Simply amazing. The past few days have been nuts, and I couldn’t imagine not having Katharine to help me even as a fit, educated, relatively young man. I could not imagine having to navigate parenthood on my own. Thank you and wow. I think of the 2Pac song, Keep Ya Head Up, and now I think I can fully understand the gravity of the words.

I don’t have much time but I just wanted to write about how amazing it is to meet you. Also how hard your mother worked to bring you here, and she did so good, through everything that didn’t work the way we wanted. She made it happen, and we’re forever in her debt. You’re going to love her so much.

You came late and in your last ultrasound the lab tech called you a wild man, and that’s what you’ve been so far. You are best early Christmas present ever and I’m sorry you’ll feel cheated out of birthday presents.
